Wind farm support vessel is Volvo Penta IPS equipped

MARCH 13, 2014 — CTruk Boats Ltd., Brightlingsea, Essex, England, CTruk has delivered its first Volvo Penta IPS-equipped workboat to tender services and crewboat charter company Sima Charters of the Netherlands.

According to Volvo Penta, Sima Charters is “delighted” with the results it’s getting from the IPS (Inboard Propulsion System) in the 18.5 m x 6.1 m SC Falcon CTruk 20T MPC offshore wind vessel.

With its proven technology, including a joystick control for safe and easy docking, Volvo Penta IPS is ideal for many marine commercial applications and the SC Falcon workboat has thus far impressed Sima Charters with its stability and maneuverability, as well as its 25-knot cruising speed and top speed of more than 30 knots.

Another benefit is the Volvo Penta dynamic positioning system, which allows the skipper to hold the boat’s heading near the turbine ladder and keep it steady in a limited area — even in 1.6-meter swells.

CTruk workboats are well known for their fuel efficiency — and the Volvo Penta IPS-equipped SC Falcon burns just 105 liters of fuel per hour at 20 knots.
