Delivered to New Bedford, Mass., owner Lars Vinjerud II last June, the 106 foot scallop boat Viking Power is one of a kind vessel packed with innovations.

Built by Williams Fabrication of Bayou La Batre, Ala., with some engineering by C. Fly Marine Services of Mandeville, La., the vessel features a bow designed to endure rough waters uses A-frames, rather than traditional booms and uses a unique hydraulic deck crane for unloading catch.

This one of a kind vessel is powered by a one of a kind engine: a Laborde Products’ S12R-Y3MPTAW Mitsubishi engine. The fully mechanical 12- cylinder Tier III engine, produces 1,100 HP at 1,600 RPM.

Laborde calls the pairing of the vessel with this engine “a match made in scallop heaven.”

Laborde Products provides innovative and disruptive engine solutions for approximately one-third of the United States, as well as the U.S. Gulf Coast for the Marine and Industrial markets. The engine distributor specializes in custom packaged diesel-powered equipment, generators, pumps, service, and support to meet the needs of those markets.
