MAY 8, 2013 — Houston based Thrustmaster of Texas closed out this year’s OTC by  signing a contract on the trade show floor to supply a complete thruster package to Urk, Netherlands, based Dutch Barge Company.

The Thrustmaster package is to outfit an innovative modular multi-purpose offshore support vessel (MPOSV) that will be classed by Bureau Veritas for DP2 operations.

According to the Dutch Barge Company, the key feature of the vessel is its modular capability. Able to act individually as a barge and tug, or in combination as a full DP2 vessel, the MPSOV can adapt to suit many different types of operation. Features include a large deck space, heave-compensated 100-ton crane and four-point mooring plus NORSOK-standard accommodations for up to 74 people in safety and comfort. The vessel’s hull will be built at a Polish shipyard with all fitting out work carried out in the Netherlands.

The vessel will utilize two 1,500 hp Thrustmaster azimuth thrusters model TH1500N, two 1,000 hp Thrustmaster retractable azimuth thrusters Model TH1000RN, and one 1,000 hp Thrustmaster carbon steel tunnel thruster model 66TT1000-CS.

“We have a great opportunity to continue with our 30 year track record by providing quality commercial thrusters to the offshore and marine industry that is backed up with a global network of support and service – we couldn’t think of a better venue to finalize the deal with Dutch Barge Company than at the Offshore Technology Conference,” said Thrustmaster’s Marketing Manager Johnray Strickland.

2014 has been shaping up to be a busy year for Thrustmaster –  in February the company expanded their product lineup to include water jets after acquiring the technology of DOEN Pacific. DOEN, a leading designer and manufacturer of water jet propulsion systems for the past 48 years, is one of five marine waterjet manufactures in the world building water jets up to 4,000 kW.
