Steve Durrell out at Irving Shipbuilding

NOVEMBER 28, 2012 — Steve Durrell is no longer the president of Irving Shipbuilding, Halifax, N.S., Canada, and has left the company, according to Canadian news sources. They quote Mary Keith, a spokesperson from Irving, as declining to specify the reason for Mr. Durrell’s departure, calling it a “confidential matter.”

“Steve has worked for the company for more than 27 years and we appreciate his long term commitment to Irving Shipbuilding,” Ms. Keith is quoted as saying in an email.

Reportedly, Ross Langley, vice-chairman of Irving Shipbuilding, is running the shipyard until a replacement for Mr. Durrell is found.

Mr. Durrell is a 1984 graduate of Maine Maritime Academy.He started his career with Irving as an engineer at Saint John Shipbuilding in the Canadian Patrol Frigate Program. In 1994 he came to Halifax as a Ship Manager. He became president of Irving Shipbuilding in August 2008.
