Steel of West Virginia extends bulb flat offerings

APRIL 7, 2015 — Steel of West Virginia, Inc. announced last December that its Huntington, WV, steel making facility had started production of bulb flats, which offer significant benefits in shipbuilding stiffener applications.

Now the company is adding to its bulb flat offerings with American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) extending its certification of bulb flats produced by the company

“ABS has just enhanced our certification to include additional grades of bulb flats,” said Timothy R. Duke, President of Steel of West Virginia, Inc. “We are now certified to produce bulb flats in Grades A, B, D, E, and AH36.”

“We continue to be excited to add bulb flats to our product offerings of U.S. made steel products at our Huntington, WV, plant,” Mr, Duke added. “Our entry into this market is going well and we continue to offer more sizes and now additional grades. We have successfully produced bulb flats from 180 mm to 240 mm and intend to produce them in the range of 120 mm – 240 mm in the upcoming months.”

Mr. Duke says that bulb flats complement the company’s offerings of special sections for transportation markets.

Steel of West Virginia, Inc. has a long history of steel making, with two electric arc furnaces, two rolling mills and numerous fabricating operations.
