Sinopec unit takes delivery of advanced seismic vessel

FA-XIAN-6OCTOBER 3, 2013 — China’s Shanghai Offshore Petroleum Bureau, which is part of Sinopec, has taken delivery of delivery of the seismic research vessel FA XIAN 6 from Shangai Shipyard Co.

The 4,637 dwt FA XIAN 6, a Rolls-RoyceUT 830 CD design, is the first of its type to be built in China. It is equipped with a package of Rolls-Royce power and propulsion systems as well as advanced automated handling systems for deploying the seismic equipment.

During research missions the vessel will tow up to 14 streamers, each 12 km long.
