Saga Cruises orders second ship at Meyer Werft
Written by Nick BlenkeySEPTEMBER 22, 2017 — U.K. based Saga Cruises is to add a second newbuild cruise ship to its fleet. Like its first newbuild, Spirit of Discovery which is set for delivery by the shipbuilder in July 2019, it will be built at Meyer Werft in Germany.
To be called Spirit of Adventure, it will be a sister ship to Spirit of Discovery and similar in external design, carrying less than 1,000 passengers and with balconies for all cabin.
Saga plc CEO Lance Batchelor said that pre-sales for Spirit of Discovery have been very strong. and that “this confidence in demand has supported our decision to expand the newbuild fleet and purchase our second new ship, to be delivered by in August 2020.”
Bernard Meyer, managing partner of Meyer Werft said: “We are very happy and honored to continue to work with Saga Cruises. Their decision to now build two vessels with us makes us very proud.”
The 58,250 gt vessel will be approx. 236 m long and 31.2 m wide
