Rolls-Royce to supply $15 million Jackson PSV package
Written by Nick BlenkeyDECEMBER 10, 2012 — Rolls-Royce reports that it has secured a comprehensive US$15 million project management and integrated propulsion and control systems package with Jackson Offshore Operators for the two advanced platform supply vessels that Jackson has ordered from BAE Systems Jacksonville, Fla., shipyard (see earlier story).
The two Jones Act qualified, Guido Perla designed GPA 675J PSVs will will enter into service in 2014. They will be equipped with an integrated Rolls-Royce propulsion system featuring two Azipull propulsion thrusters, tunnel thrusters and a low-voltage active front end diesel electric power system.
The Rolls-Royce scope of supply also includes power and propulsion systems integration – including an advanced Acon automation system, an Icon Dynamic Positioning (DP-2) system and a fully integrated electrical detailed engineering package – and “start-to-finish” project management including on-site advisory services, planning and commissioning.
Anders Almestad, Rolls-Royce, President – Offshore, said: “Working on a project like this with Jackson Offshore is a real privilege for Rolls-Royce as it enables us to clearly demonstrate how we are able to deliver value to customers through early and close engagement when designing and commissioning a highly complex integrated systems package.”
“We selected the Rolls-Royce systems package based on several key factors,” said Lee Jackson, President and CEO of Jackson Offshore Operators. “There are efficiencies gained during the build process through the use of a single source supplier of major ship systems; especially one with great experience in complex ship systems integration. Additionally, the operating profile of the vessels with a low-voltage active front end diesel electric power system and Azipull propulsion thrusters is extremely fuel efficient yielding reduced exhaust emissions as well as economic benefits to our clients.”
