Rolls-Royce all-gas Bergen engines picked for FLNG

MARCH 20, 2015 — Rolls-Royce has secured a contract with Keppel Shipyard in Singapore to supply two Bergen B35:40V20AG all-gas engines for power generation on-board a Floating Liquefaction Vessel (FLNGV) owned by Golar LNG Ltd. The vessel Hilli was a former Moss Rosenberg type LNG carrier and is being converted to an FLNGV. carrier (see earlier story).

The Bergen B35:40V20AG is a compact and powerful gas engine with world-class environmental performance in terms of low emissions of NOx, CO2, SOx and particulates. The energy consumption is also low, helping Rolls-Royce to win the bid by offering a more efficient all-gas solution compared to dual-fuel options. The power generated will be mainly used for liquefaction processes, and also for supporting vessel operation and the energy needs of the crew onboard.

The contract awarded by Keppel is recognition of the cost-efficiency of our engines and demonstrates the faith that the market has in our innovative single fuel LNG solutions.”

The contract with Keppel Shipyard includes an option for an additional two engines for a second Golar LNG carrier to be converted, Gimi.

The engines are scheduled for delivery next year and the conversion of Hilli is expected to be completed in first quarter of 2017.
