P&O Maritime research vessel carries out survey for Irish Sea conservation zone

madog2 1The P&O Maritime research vessel Prince Madog has been on a 37 day charter assignment with Osiris Projects, carrying out a survey at the proposed North St. George’s Channel Marine Conservation Zone in the Irish Sea, on behalf of the U.K. Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).

This contract saw the Prince Madog engaging in its first hydrographic survey to utilize a recently installed RESON 7125 multi-beam echo-sounder system.

The successful completion of this contract is a demonstration of the technical capability of the Prince Madog and consolidates P&O Maritime’s position as a provider of premium scientific and survey vessel solutions within the European market.

The Prince Madog, built in 2001, is a modern state-of-the art scientific research vessel, which is operated out of Menai Bridge, North Wales. The 35 m vessel is specifically designed to provide 24 hour, year round, operating capability. It is purpose built for providing a range of scientific and survey services including; geotechnical, geophysical, hydrographic, oceanographic and environmental services. The Prince Madog is also well suited to support a wide range of activities within the U.K.’s rapidly growing offshore renewables industry.

Australian based P&O Maritime has joint ownership of the Prince Madog with Bangor University through a joint venture company and is responsible for providing vessel management and operational support services.
