"Floating engine room" will be towed to Meyer Werft, Papenburg, later this month

SEPTEMBER 21, 2017 — The Meyer group’s Neptun shipyard in Rostock, Germany, today launched the first of two “floating engine room” modules for the world’s first LNG fueled cruise ship, AIDAnova.

The 120 m long, 42 m wide and three-deck high module was lowered into the Warnow river with a special lowering device.

The modules carry the ship’s “heart,” its four Caterpillar MaK M 46 DF dual-fuel engines.

The first floating engine room module is set to start its tow from Rostock, via the Kiel Canal, to the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Ems, on September 25 subject to weather conditions.

AIDAnova is set to deliver the Carnival Corporation’s German market brand, AIDA Cruises, late next year.
