West-Pierce-MooseFEBRUARY 26, 2013 — San Francisco Bay Area boat designer and builder Moose Boats has recently delivered two more of its M2-37 catamarans: a fire rescue boat for West Pierce Fire and Rescue, University Place, WA, and the 70th Moose Boat built, a M2-37 catamaran patrol boat for San Francisco Police Department.

The new 2,000 GPM rated 37 foot vessel delivered to West Pierce is the most powerful M2 Series fire fighting boat that Moose Boats has built to date. The all aluminum catamaran is powered by twin 425 hp Cummins turbo diesel engines coupled to twin Hamilton 292 water-jets with dual 1,000 GPM Hale fire pumps. Dual fire monitors and dual 5 in Storz discharges offer open-water fire suppression and land based apparatus water supply.

Simultaneous pumping and propulsion from both engines maintains maneuverability while flowing fire suppression water as well as providing full fire pumping redundancy.

The interior features a fully enclosed cabin complete with two shock-mitigating seats, a patient treatment bench with restraints, a head enclosure and galley.

The Moose Boat will be responsible for fire-fighting, search and rescue and patient transport within Southern Puget Sound. The boat is the first Moose Boat to have an electrically operated bow door for personnel deployment, beach rescue and land based firefighting operations.

West Pierce Fire and Rescue utilized a Fiscal Year 2008 Port Security Grant Program award to purchase the vessel, which will serve as a regional asset interoperating with neighboring agencies.

The cabin is outfitted with shock mitigating seating for three personnel, a generous workstation, an array of Furuno navigation equipment, Motorola and Icom communications equipment and FLIR gyro-stabilized thermal imaging equipment with a dedicated Nauticomp display screen.

San Francisco Police Department’s new M2-37 catamaran joins the growing fleet of Bay Area Moose Boats currently in service with Contra Costa County Sheriff, Tiburon Fire Rescue District, San Francisco Fire Department and Oakland Police Department on San Francisco Bay.

The M2-37 will be responsible for deterring and mitigating threats to San Francisco’s critical infrastructure and maritime commerce as well as serving as a regional asset in the event of a terrorist threat or natural disaster. In addition, the boat will be providing patrol and security services during the upcoming Americas Cup Races in 2013.

The City of San Francisco utilized a Fiscal Year 2007 California Port and Maritime Security Grant Program award to purchase the vessel.
