Seattle, Wash,-based MER Equipment has introduced its new B6 marine enclosure, a compact, high-performance generator platform designed to address one of the marine industry’s most persistent challenges: fitting reliable power into increasingly constrained vessel spaces without sacrificing performance or flexibility.

“Space onboard is always at a premium,” said Tyler Allen, COO of MER Equipment. “The B6 was developed to give operators a compact solution without compromising reliability, serviceability, or integration flexibility. It’s designed for the way vessels are being built and retrofitted today.”

Measuring just 66 inches long x 33 inches wide x 40 inches tall, the B6 is engineered to deliver commercial- grade durability in one of the smallest footprints available in its power class. The enclosure supports generator sets up to 53 kW at 60 Hz, with expansion capability up to 104 kWe via optional bump-out panels.

Designed for modern power systems

Unlike traditional enclosed generator systems, the B6 features a modular electrical compartment built around widely supported industrial components. This allows the enclosure to support a broad range of paralleling controllers and system architectures.

The B6 is fully compatible with MER’s Tango Paralleling System, enabling synchronized load sharing across multiple generators. The system can support up to 36 units within a managed network and integrate with battery banks, inverters, shore power, and renewable energy sources, providing a scalable pathway for hybrid and future-forward vessel designs.

Commercial durability in a compact package

The enclosure is engineered for harsh marine environments, with fully sealed connection ports for DC and AC cables, seawater supply, fuel, and oil lines to help contain noise and fluids.

The exhaust system is thermally insulated and sound attenuated, with configurable orientation for wet or dry exhaust applications. Built-in monitoring includes oil pressure, coolant temperature, coolant level, oil level, and fuel return pressure.

For vessels requiring hydraulic deck gear or stabilizer support, the B6 offers an optional electrically clutched front power take-off (fPTO). The removable PTO panel extension maintains the enclosure’s sound attenuation performance while adding mechanical capability.

Supporting evolving market demands

As vessel operators face increasing regulatory pressure, space constraints, and growing interest in hybrid systems, MER Equipment developed the B6 to serve commercial fishing vessels, tugs, passenger vessels, and yacht applications alike.

“The market is demanding smaller, smarter, and more integrated systems,” Allen added. “The B6 gives designers and operators flexibility today while preparing them for what’s next.”
