Written by Nick BlenkeyDECEMBER 23, 2015 — Norwegian shipbuilder Kleven has won an order to build a state-of-the-art stern trawler for France’s Compagnie Des Peches Saint-Malo S.A. & SAS Comptoir Des Peches D’Europe Du Nord – Euronor.
The 80 m will be built to Rolls-Royce’s wave-piercing NVC 374 WP design at Kleven’s Myklebust shipyard for delivery in September 2017. Features will include an onboard factory for the production of fish filets, a storage capacity of 1,400 cu.m plus a 550 cu.m fishmeal storage hold.
Ståle Rasmussen, CEO of Kleven, said: “We are happy to be able to mark the end of the year with yet another contract for an advanced vessel developed by Rolls-Royce. This vessel will provide the owners with a state-of-the art vessel for more sustainable harvesting from the sea. We are proud to be part of this development, and look forward to the building process.”
Jan Emblemsvåg, Rolls-Royce, Senior Vice President Ship Design & Systems, said: “This is our fifth fishing industry related contract this year, of which four are to be built by Kleven. We are looking forward to deliver one of the most efficient and modern fishing vessels in the world.”
The ICE 1A* classed vessel’s wide range of Rolls-Royce equipment will include main engine, auxiliary engines, thruster, automation and hydraulic winches.
Operational efficiency, low emissions, crew comfort, safety and excellent seakeeping capabilities were the main considerations in the development of the ship design and equipment package.
Kleven now has 17 vessels on its orderbook, with a total value of close to NOK 11 billion (about $1.26 billion).
