Hyde Marine partners with Cammell Laird

SEPTEMBER 27, 2013 — Calgon Carbon Corporation (NYSE: CCC) subsidiary Hyde Marine, Inc. has established a partnership agreement with U.K. shipyard Cammell Laird for installation of the chemical free Hyde Guardian (HG) ballast water treatment (BWT) system.

The move follows Cammell Laird’s selection by the Royal Navy’s Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) to install Hyde Guardian systems ranging from 150 cu.m/hr to 1000 cu.m/hr in five naval vessels. The most recent installation was a complex retrofit in June 2013 of a HG1000X unit in the RFA’s fast fleet tanker  Wave Ruler at Cammell Laird’s Birkenhead shipyard.

Hyde Marine President John Platz, says the partnership agreement means Cammell Laird is ready to install Guardian BWT systems in a wide variety of ships.

The Hyde Guardian BWT process uses efficient filtration and ultraviolet disinfection to treat ships’ ballast water to prevent the spread of invasive species from port to port. In April 2013, Hyde Guardian became one of the first BWT systems to earn Alternate Management System (AMS) approval from the United States Coast Guard (USCG). It received  IMO type approval in April 2009 and has type approvals from several classification societies.
