Harley Marine orders barges at Zidell and U.S. Barge

Harley Marine Services, Seattle, has recently signed contracts with two local shipyards to begin construction on three double hull petroleum barges.  Harley Marine has a goal of reaching OPA 90 compliance before 2012. OPA 90  (Oil Pollution Act of 199090) requires all petroleum vessels and barges be double hull before 2015. 

The first barge, to be named DALE FRANK JR., is being built at Zidell Marine in Portland, Oregon.  It is a double hull petroleum barge measuring 289 ft x 78 ft x 24 ft with a carrying capacity of 52,000 barrels.  The fourth in its class, it is a sister barge to the WEBB MOFFETT. and is expected to be completed and delivered to Harley Marine Services in October 2011. 

The second barge, to be named BETSY ARNTZ, is being built at U.S. Barge in Portland, Oregon. It too is double hulled and measures 241 ft x 64 ft x 23 ft with a carrying capacity of 24,500 barrels of IFO and 7,000 barrels of MGO.  The sixth barge in its class, it is a sister barge to the ANNE ELIZABETH, and will be delivered to Harley Marine Services in November 2011. 

The third barge, TBN 31,500, is being built at Zidell Marine in Portland and will be a sister barge to the BETSY ARNTZ.  The double hull barge measures 241 ft x 64 ft x 23 ft with a carrying capacity of 28,000 barrels of IFO and 3,500 barrels of MGO.  It will be the seventh barge of this class and will be delivered to Harley Marine Services in March 2012.

The barges are all ABS classed vessels, capable of working anywhere in the world.
