Becker Marine grows presence in U.S.

MARCH 14, 2017—Hamburg, Germany-based ship supplier Becker Marine Systems has made significant gains in the North American marine market over the last two years, following the establishment of a branch office in Houston, TX.

“We have been able to significantly improve the degree of familiarity with Becker throughout the North American region and in the meantime have received a number of new orders,” says Walther Bauer, Director of Sales & Projects at Becker Marine Systems.

Becker Marine Systems reports it has secured major orders in the U.S., including the delivery of rudders for a new generation of U.S. Navy tankers being built at NASSCO (National Steel & Shipbuilding Company) shipyard in San Diego, CA. There has also been strong interest from numerous local shipping companies, reflected by new orders for fishing trawler, ferry and pushboat retrofits. There is significant demand from the inland waterway sector on the Mississippi.

Becker Marine says a significant improvement in maneuverability and energy savings of up to 15 percent can be achieved with its innovative solutions.

Becker Marine Systems offers a wide variety of propulsion-related products to support ship operators’ efforts to improve efficiency and reduce emissions. “The entire Becker range of maneuvering systems and energy-saving devices, as well as ‘cold ironing,’ the external and low-emission supply of power based on Liquefied Natural Gas or LNG, is in demand in the North American region,” says Bauer.  In future, Becker’s newly developed COBRA (Compact Battery Rack) maritime battery system will be marketed and sold through the office in Houston.
