MAY 25, 2017 — ABS has gained another customer for the newly launched ABS Nautical Systems mobile application developed for workboats in the inland and coastal waterways.

“Bering Marine Corp / Alaska Marine Lines was looking for a way to help their crews manage day-to-day operations with better tools,” says ABS Nautical Systems Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Stephen Schwarz. “We designed NS Workboat with that specific functionality in mind, so it is an excellent fit for them.”

The application, based on daily crew activities, requires very little training because of the familiar mobile interface. Subchapter M compliance, top of mind for inland and coastal waterway companies, has been integrated into the software so the crew does not have to be trained on any new processes or activities. Using the app on a tablet, operational data is captured by crew automatically during regular operations. Back office operations then are simplified, allowing for ease of printing and submitting accurate reports whenever required. Further, deployment to the cloud keeps the IT investment minimal and there is no software onboard the boat.

“We are looking forward to rolling out the ABS Workboat app to our towing fleet and our other inspected vessels,” says Steve Isaacs, Port Engineer, Bering Marine Corp / Alaska Marine Lines. “Bringing our HSQE and Maintenance programs together under one easy to use software program will provide our crews a way to ensure ship and shore have access to useful tools and data.”

NS Workboat is a cloud-based subscription solution offered on both iOS and Android. Tablets will be delivered pre-configured by NS as a part of the solution.
