USCG issues bulletin on BWM extension program

MARCH 7, 2017 — With what is still a relatively small number of U.S. Coast Guard type-approved ballast water management systems starting to be available, many vessel owners will now have questions on what they can do to extend a vessel’s compliance date until a type approved BWMS can actually be installed in it.

A new U.S. Coast Guard Marine Safety Information Bulletin (MSIB), “Ballast Water Management (BWM) Extension Program Update,” MSIB 03-17 gives guidance on what’s involved in applying for a compliance date extension.
