Polaris Shipping to retrofit seven ships with Langh scrubbers

JANUARY 9, 2019 — South Korea’s Polaris Shipping is to retrofit four 180,000 dwt bulkers and three 300,000 dwt VLOCs with exhaust gas scrubber systems.

Under a deal signed with scrubber manufacturer Langh Tech and STX Offshore & Shipbuilding, the scrubber installations will carried out as turn key deliveries by STX O&S.

On each vessel, the main engine and the three auxiliaries will be connected to the scrubber. The scrubbers are multi-inlet type and Langh Tech will deliver all the equipment necessary for a fully working open loop system. The component deliveries will start in summer 2019 and the installations will follow soon after component delivery.

Langh Tech is well established in Korea and is locally represented by Regional Manager Simon Kim, who sees the contract with Polaris Shipping as being “a great milestone for Langh Tech to cooperate with many other esteemed Korean shipping companies in the future.” \

Langh Tech is starting to train local service and commissioning engineers for the Korean market. This will in future ensure short response time for service visits in Korean and other near-by ports. Langh Tech scrubber manufacturing has thus far been done in Europe, but now Langh Tech will also start scrubber tower production in Korea.
