Eastern launches second of two Bisso Offshore 5,100 hp Z-drive tugs

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc., Panama City, Fla., reports that its Allanton shipyard recently launched the A.Thomas Higgins, the second of two 80-foot, 5,100 HP Z-drive tugs under construction for Bisso Offshore, LLC, a division of E.N. Bisso & Son, Inc.

The vessel is being built to Robert Allan Ltd.’s RApport 2400 design and is powered by two Louisana CAT Caterpillar 3512E Tier 4 EPA/IMO III marine propulsion diesel engines and Kongsberg/Rolls Royce US205 P20 Z-drives and predicted bollard pull is 65 tons.

The first vessel in the series, the C.D. White, was delivered earlier this year (see story) and both vessels have essentially the same characteristics
