New Orleans headquartered Canal Barge Company reports it has reached agreement with Pine Bluff Sand and Gravel (PBSG) to acquire five of its towboats and to offer employment to its 80 professional mariners.

Canal Barge called the deal “a natural result of the deep and mutually successful partnership that we have enjoyed with PBSG for several years and is an important step to advance CBC’s Towboat Fleet of the Future strategy.”

Canal Barge described the PBSG boats as “extremely well-conditioned and ideally suited to CBC’s long-term needs” and said PBSG had indicated that it plans for CBC to continue to be its preferred partner for its marine transportation needs.

The vessels being acquiring are three 6,000 towboats (M/V Don Boling, M/V Bill Atkinson. M/V Gerald Majors) and two 1,800 horsepower retractable wheelhouse towboats (M/V Bill Rodgers and M/V George Rowe).
