Eastern Shipbuilding delivers escort tug to Bay-Houston
Written by Marine Log StaffFEBRUARY 24, 2016—Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Panama City, FL, recently delivered the H. Douglas M, the first of a series of four Z-Tech 2400 Escort & Terminal Tugs for Bay-Houston Towing Co., Houston, TX.
Designed and engineered by naval architectural firm Robert Allan Ltd., Vancouver, BC, Canada, the H. Douglas M has an overall length of 80 ft, beam of 38 ft 3 in, and depth of 15 ft 9 in. Propulsion is supplied by two EPA Tier 3-compliant Caterpillar 3516C (B rating) main engines that drive two Schottel SRP 1215FP Z-drives in nozzles. The engines are rated at 5,150 hp each at 1,600 rev/min.
The H. Douglas M is classed by ABS Maltese Cross A1, Towing Vessel, AMS and Escort Service ABS Loadline (SoC), Statement of Compliance.
The main generators are two 99 kW, 480 kV John Deere 4045AFM85 Tier 3. Market Machinery supplied a Fairleader 50 hp DEPCF-48S, 36 in wide electric hawser winch.
Eastern Shipbuilding is also constructing an identical series of four tugs for Suderman & Young Towing Co. G&H Towing is serving as the owner’s onsite representative and agent during the engineering, construction and delivery for both Bay-Houston and Suderman & Young. G&H Towing will operate all of the vessels after delivery.
