At this year’s free virtual presentation of Marine Log’s TTB –Tugs, Towboats & Barges conference, being held March 23 and 24, Sean Duffy, senior executive director of the Big River Coalition, will update participants on the Mississippi River Channel deepening project — a topic of vital concern to operators of inland river towboats and barges.

In his presentation — Navigation on the Mississippi River: Where Are We Now? — Duffy will give an update on the status of ongoing dredging for Phase 1 of the project; details, including a schedule, of pipeline relocations on the crossings above New Orleans, as well as a tentative schedule for phases 2-4; info on the “Full Funding Floats All Boats Campaign,” and an update on adjustments made to improve the channel maintenance.

The Big River Coalition focuses on securing increased funding from the Harbor Maintenance Trust Fund and Inland Waterways Trust Fund. In addition to his role at the coalition, Duffy is the new co-chair on NOAA’s Federal Advisory Committee’s Hydrographic Services Review Panel
