MARCH 27, 2014 — Japan’s Astomos Energy Corporation has ordered a second very large LPG carrier at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI), identical to a vessel it ordered from the shipbuilder late last year. Completion and delivery of the ship are scheduled for the first half of 2016. Construction, as with the previously ordered vessel, will be carried out at MHI’s Nagasaki Shipyard & Machinery Works.

The newly ordered 83,000 cu.m. LPG carrier will measure 230.0 m (LOA) x 36.6 m beam and 11.1m draft.

The ship will also be equipped with the industry’s most advanced systems, including mooring arrangements, to enable passage through the expanded Panama Canal, which is expected to become operational early in 2016.
