Signet Shipbuilding delivers deck barge

JANUARY 2, 2013 — Houston-headquartered Signet Maritime Corporation had added a 140 ft x 40 ft deck barge, the Signet 141, to its fleet. Designed by Farrell and Norton Naval Architects of Newcastle, Maine, it will provide an additional asset to assist Signet Maritime customers in the growing Port of Pascagoula, Miss., where it will be based for charter throughout ports in the U.S. Gulf.

The barge was built at Signet’s Signet Shipbuilding & Repair division, a full service shipyard acquired in June 2010 when Signet acquired Colle Towing Company, Inc.

The barge has an LOA of 140 ft, beam of 40 ft, molded depth of 9 ft, a light draft of 1 ft 5 in and will handle 800 long tons of cargo with deck strength of 2,000 lb/sq. ft. Its improved design will enable Signet to assist with movement of cargo in the Port and surrounding areas.

Construction of the Signet 141 started in May 2012 and it was christened on December 20, 2012.
