The M/V Alexa Golding recently joined Golding Barge’s inland waterways fleet in Vicksburg, Miss., as a new 2,800-hp retractable twin-screw towboat designed by Sterling Marine and constructed by Steiner Shipyard in Bayou La Batre, Ala.
Delivered in 2026, the vessel measures 94 by 34 feet, with a 12-foot depth and is powered by two Caterpillar 3512 Tier 4 main engines supplied by Puckett Caterpillar. The propulsion package includes Reintjes 773 reduction gears from Karl Senner, 8-inch shafts, Thordon bearings and Sound propellers.
The towboat is equipped with 36,000 gallons of diesel fuel capacity, along with 5,000 gallons of potable water, 800 gallons of lube oil and 2,950 gallons of diesel exhaust fluid capacity.
Onboard systems include Furuno electronics with two radars, GPS, sounder, four Icom radios and Starlink connectivity. Steering and engine alarm systems were supplied by Gulf Coast Air & Hydraulics, while engine cooling is handled through an East Park Radiator system.
Deck equipment includes two Patterson deck winches and a Schoellhorn capstan. The vessel also features Schuyler fendering, PPG coatings and rockwool mineral wool insulation throughout interior spaces for sound and vibration dampening.
Accommodations aboard the Alexa Golding include 10 bunks, four crew rooms, two full bathrooms and one half-bath. The vessel also includes crew workstations in the lounge, a laundry room and a galley outfitted with stainless steel appliances. Ceramic tile was used throughout the deckhouse interior.
The pilothouse has a 32-foot eye level and is climate controlled through a dedicated First Choice air conditioning unit, while three self-contained Carrier units serve the accommodations spaces. Fire protection includes a CO2 suppression system.
Last August, the M/V Gage Golding, a 94-foot retractable, twin-screw towboat delivering 2,800 horsepower, was completed by Steiner Shipyard and also delivered to Golding Barge.
