Jeffersonville, Ind.-based American Commercial Barge Line (ACBL) announced an expansion of its operations in Port Houston through a new agreement with the Port of Houston Authority.
Under the agreement, ACBL has leased 28 acres of submerged land for barge fleeting operations. The site will expand the company’s Lost Lake Fleet operations in the Houston market. The lease allows ACBL to conduct fleeting activities under port authority standards.
According to the company, development plans include new mooring structures, dredging and other infrastructure improvements intended to support operations along the Houston Ship Channel. The company said the project, along with an extension of its existing Lost Lake Fleet lease, will increase its fleeting capacity in the Houston area.
“This investment reflects our increased focus on the Gulf Coast market and the critical role our Houston operations play in ACBL’s transformation,” said Peter Coxon, who was appointed CEO in 2024, said in a May 18 statement.
Alex Pucheu, who oversees ACBL’s fleets and terminals business, said the expansion is expected to support the company’s Gulf Coast operations and inland network.
Founded in 1915, ACBL provides marine transportation and logistics services for dry cargo and liquid cargo markets. The company operates more than 130 towboats and 3,500 barges across the inland waterway system.
