OCTOBER 17, 2016 — Gateway Dredging & Contracting, Old Monroe, MO, has taken delivery of a 55 ft, 1,200 hp, twin screw conventional towboat built by JB Marine Service, Inc., St. Louis, MO.

The Shearer Group, Inc. (TSGI), Seabook ,TX, provided the design and engineering services to the shipyard.

Designed to ABS rules for Building and Classing Steel Vessels for Service on Rivers and Intracoastal Waterways, the towboat was designed with TSGI’s best interpretation of the then still pending USCG 46 CFR Subchapter M regulations. TSGI says this presented its engineers with no difficulties because of the firm’s continued involvement in the critiquing of Subchapter M throughout the rulemaking process.

The towboat is the first of two designed by TSGI and constructed at JB Marine Services, Inc. The second is a 68 ft, 1,500 HP twin screw conventional towboat and is currently under construction.
