NSRP selects new projects for funding

JUNE 19, 2014 — The Executive Control Board of the National Shipbuilding Research Program (NSRP) has selected 10 research and development projects to receive $11.6 million in funding, as part of the program’s mission to reduce costs associated with U. S. shipbuilding and ship repair.

The NSRP is a collaboration of U.S. shipyards that focuses on common issues with a goal of reducing the cost of acquiring, operating and maintaining Navy ships through: manufacturing best practices, government and industry collaboration, breakthrough technologies and processes, and rapid and widespread implementation.

The 10 projects, valued at over $23 million in both Navy funding and industry cost share, were among those proposed in response to a special Request for Proposals issued in March. They cover:

• Expanded Adhesive Outfitting Applications
• Hull, Mechanical and Electrical Modules to Increase Flexibility
• Rigging Follow-On Research & Development
• Digital Shipbuilding
• Virtual Reality Based Training
• Assisted Decision Support System for Outfitting Work Content Palletization
• In Service Ship Re-Documentation and Configuration Management
• Swage Panel SVR Rule Development
• Dynamic Change Awareness
• Dockside Tests and Trials FTQ
