Austal appoints Terry O’Brien to VP position

DECEMBER 10, 2013 — Austal USA has appointed Terry O’Brien, a retired Navy Captain with over 26 years of service, as Vice President of Business Development and External Affairs.

Based in Washington D.C., he will provide direct support to Navy and Government officials and is responsible for the all of Austal’s business development efforts, state and federal legislative activities, as well as coordinating external communications and media relations.

During his Navy career, Mr. O’Brien commanded USS Pensacola and the Nassau Amphibious Strike Group during the initial stages of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Additionally, he had tours with the Joint Chiefs of Staff, on the staff of the Secretary of the Navy, as the Amphibious Brand Head on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations and was a National Security Fellow at Harvard University.

For the last 10 years, Mr. O’Brien has held various positions in Business Development and Customer Affairs at Huntinngton Ingalls Industries, including Director of Customer Relations, Amphibious Programs. His portfolio included the LPD 17 San Antonio Class and the LHA 6 America Class, where he was instrumental in introducing these two new ship classes to the fleet. He comes to Austal with a a deep understanding of the shipbuilding industry, significant operational experience and knowledge of the U.S. Navy, and established relationships with senior Navy leadership and at many levels within the Department of Defense and Congress.
