Design for 25,000 TEU LNG-fueled box ship gains DnV GL AiP
Written by Nick BlenkeyThought containerships couldn’t get any bigger? Seems they can. China’s Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding has plans for a 25,000 TEU box ship that would be the world’s largest yet. It would also be LNG-fueled.
Today, DNV GL awarded the shipyard an Approval in Principle (AiP) certificate for the design in a ceremony at the Marintec trade fair in Shanghai. .
Knut Ørbeck-Nilssen, CEO DNV GL – Maritime, presented the certificate to Chen Jun, President of Hudong-Zhonghua, at the CSSC booth in Shanghai. The ceremony was witnessed by Chen Jianliang, Chairman of Hudong-Zhonghua, and Norbert Kray, Regional Manager of DNV GL – Maritime for Greater China.
“We are very proud to cooperate with Hudong-Zhonghua on this project,” said Norbert Kray, Regional Manager of DNV GL – Maritime for Greater China. “Hudong-Zhonghua has been a leading player in pushing the ship design envelope forward, especially for large vessels. In addition, the use of LNG is a sign of the continuing momentum for the fuel, as shipping transitions to a lower emission, lower carbon future.”
