OCTOBER 5, 2016 — Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE:HII) reports that Brad Mason has been promoted to a vice president of its Newport News Shipbuilding division and president of its AMSEC LLC subsidiary.

Mason earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the United States Naval Academy and a master’s degree from the U.S. Naval Post Graduate School. He joined AMSEC in 1998 and served most recently as the company’s director of operations for maintenance, modernization and technical services.

He succeeds Harris Leonard, who will retire at the end of the year after 31 years of service.

“Harris joined Newport News Shipbuilding after serving in the U.S. Navy on both aircraft carriers and submarines,” said Newport News Shipbuilding President Matt Mulherin. “His military background, together with his engineering education, have been a great fit, and he has created new opportunities for the business and positioned us well for the future.”

Mason will assume leadership of AMSEC on Nov. 14 after a transition period and will be responsible for all aspects of AMSEC’s daily operations, reporting directly to Mulherin.

“Brad brings to this position years of experience with AMSEC in addition to 22 years of service in the U.S. Navy,” Mulherin said. “His knowledge and experience are critical to the company’s growth and continued success.”

AMSEC has more than 2,000 employees at more than 30 locations worldwide. Its services include marine engineering, naval architecture, shipyard industrial planning and design, HM&E (hull, mechanical and electrical) and C4I (command, control, communication, computers and intelligence) installation and support, and waterfront systems testing and maintenance.
