Envirocleanse to seek type approval for inTank BWTS

NOVEMBER 2, 2016 — Envirocleanse LLC, a division of Berkshire Hathaway’s Charter Brokerage, reports that it recently submitted a Letter of Intent to the U.S. Coast Guard and IMO indicating that it will apply for Type Approval of its patented Envirocleanse inTank Ballast Water Treatment System (BWTS).

Envirocleanse says that full‐scale shipboard trials performed earlier year confirming the efficacy of the system in extremely challenging water environments.

DNV‐GL is the independent lab and Norway the sponsoring country for IMO approval of the system. Type Approval testing is scheduled to be completed in the third quarter of 2017.

The Envirocleanse inTank BWTS combines a proprietary membrane technology for the production of the powerful and sustainable biocide HOCl (Hypochlorous Acid) with a U.S. Geological Survey patented “nozzle system” being used for dispersion in the ballast tanks.

Seattle, Washington, based marine consultancy Glosten holds the the patent rights to the nozzle system and is a strategic partner in this endeavor, providing engineering expertise.
