Wärtsilä to supply hybrid solutions for ultra-green Finnlines RO/RO duo

Three new 238-meter ultra-green RO/RO vessels being built at the Nanjing Jinling shipyard in China will feature Wärtsilä’s Hybrid Power Conversion system.

Wärtsilä has selected Corvus Energy to supply the 5,000 kWh energy storage systems (ESS) included in its solution,

The hybrid solution will enable these ships to operate with zero emissions while in port, and to meet the Registro Italiano Navale (RINA) Green Plus class notation. They will also have Ice Class classification 1A Super.

Wärtsilä’s equipment, which also includes in-line shaft generators, power take-off/take in converters, and transformers, is scheduled for delivery to the yard in the second half of 2020.

The ships will also be fitted with exhaust gas scrubbers and an innovative air lubrication system to reduce hull resistance
