JULY 21, 2014 — Work to refloat the wreck of the cruise ship Costa Concordia have been continuing round the clock. By this morning, local time, about 11 meters of the wreck was above water, with 3 more meters needed to reach the required draft for towing.

According to the Parbuckling Project, starboard sponson S4 was almost in position with work in progress to lower sponsons S5 and S14.

That doesn’t mean that the all has been going smoothly. At about 11 pm Saturday night, a small amount of hydrocarbons was spotted in the mid ship/aft of the wreck. The Oil Spill Response team was immediately activated and the area was cleaned through the use of absorbent booms. There was no evidence of leakage in progress.
