Damen land-based BWMS to be demonstrated in Port of Las Palmas

JANUARY 9, 2019 — A Damen InvaSave 300 Mobile Ballast Water Treatment System has been shipped to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria where it will be used in a demonstration that will see it connected to a vessel’s ballast water manifold to take on the water and treat it to the D2-standard as prescribed by the IMO’s Ballast Water Management Convention.

The InvaSave is the world’s only land-based ballast water management system (BWMS) that is actually IMO-certified to carry out such a job in a single treatment step, without any holding times or use of chemicals.

The demonstration is part of the Atlantic Blue Port Services’ project second Stakeholder Workshop session. The EU-funded project is a cooperation between close to 30 project partners and aims to promote and develop the feasibility of, and best practices for, port reception and treatment facilities in order to drastically reduce oil and polluted ballast water discharges at sea.

The planned InvaSave demonstrations are an important step towards this goal.
