Bore Song scrubber installation meets SECA requirements

Bore Song left the shipyard with open loop scrubbing in operation Bore Song left the shipyard with open loop scrubbing in operation

JUNE 10, 2015 — An exhaust gas cleaning system based on DeltaLangh scrubber technology  has received confirmation of full compliance with SECA and IMO regulations from Lloyd's Register and TRAFI, the Finnish Transport Safety Agency).

The scrubber was supplied by Deltamarin Floating Construction to Bore Ltd on a turnkey basis and was recently installed in the M/V Bore Song during a 14 day dry docking at Fayard, Denmark. The open loop operation of the scrubber was in immediate use when the ship left the shipyard.

The system delivered for the Bore Song's 12 MW main engine is a hybrid scrubber system that allows both closed and open loop operation.

The scrubber's efficient water treatment technology means that the water content in the output sludge in closed loop operation is extremely low. Waste is highly concentrated, and the amount that needs to be handled ashore is minimal. This is a major advantage and zero discharge operation is possible without requiring additional tanks on board.

The scrubber construction and system arrangement ensure that the total energy efficiency is among the highest on the market.

"The DeltaLangh Hybrid Scrubber was a choice when looking for a sustainable solution for the future", said Jörgen Mansnerus, VP, Marine Management at Bore Ltd. "It has lived up to our expectations: minimum sludge handling, very clean outgoing water and in that respect minimum impact on the environment. The project was handled as a turnkey project, and I am especially pleased with the short installation time, which enabled us to keep our promise to our customer." (As we reported earlier, Bore Song is on long-term charter to P&O Ferries).

Rami Hirsimäki, Managing Director of Deltamarin Floating Construction, says: "Our EPC delivery integrates a complete package of goods and services, which makes the projects easier for the owners to manage. As an independent main contractor we always utilize the best-suited technology, building method and docking location for each project. This enables us to provide our customers with premium solutions and minimal downtime for their business".
