Eastern launches Suderman & Young escort tug

MAY 11, 2016 — Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc., Panama City, FL, reports that its Nelson Street shipyard recently launched the escort tug Oceanus for Suderman & Young Towing Company.

The vessel is the latest vessel in a series of Robert Allan, Ltd. (RAL) designed Z-Tech 2400 class tugs currently under construction at the Nelson Street facility and is scheduled for delivery later in July 2016.

Oceanus is the third of four of the tugs that are being constructed for Suderman & Young , with another four identical tugs being built for Bay Houston Towing Company. G&H Towing Company will operate all eight vessels and is both owners’ onsite representative and agent during the engineering, construction and delivery of the two series.

The vessels have dimensions (overall) of 80′-0″x 38′-3″x 15′-9″

Main engines are twin Caterpillar 3516C (B rating) Tier 3 marine propulsion diesel engines delivering a total 5,150 hp at 1,600 rpm, with main propulsion being by two Schottel Model SRP nozzled Z drives.

The vessels have two John Deere 4045AFM85 Tier 3, 99 kW 480 V @ 1,800 RPM marine diesel generator sets and are each fitted with a Markey Machinery Fairleader 50HP electrichawser winch, Model DEPCF-48S, with a 36″ wide drum and mid-drum brake holding capacity of 300,000 lb.
