Inland Marine Service to manage Apex Oil fleet

Hebron, Ky,, headquartered vessel management specialist Inland Marine Service (IMS) has signed up Apex Oil Company, Inc. as its latest client. As a result of the deal, IMS will be responsible for managing all of Apex Oil’s vessels and tank barges.
Tracing its roots to 1932, Apex provides wholesale distribution, storage and transportation of petroleum products including asphalt, kerosene, fuel oil, diesel fuel, heavy oil, gasoline and marine bunkers. It maintains storage and distribution capacity throughout the U.S., with East Coast, Gulf Coast, Midwest and California terminals, and offers service to international destinations.
Apex Oil becomes the latest company to benefit from Inland Marine Service’s turn-key solutions. These ensure that each client is instantly compliant with personnel and shore-side management requirements of Sub-M. IMS says that it undergoes all audits in place of its clients and saves them from having to hire safety and compliance personnel. It adds that its compliance programs are “immediate, approved and certified in the changing regulatory worlds of the Responsible Carrier Program, TMSA, and SIRE.”

NEW APPOINTMENTS
To assist in overseeing the new Apex account, IMS has appointed Captain John Cook, who will join the team as General Manager/Vessel Operations Manager. Captain Cook will be working from the IMS New Orleans office, assisting with the implementation of new training programs for Inland Marine’s vessel and shoreside teams.
Cook joins IMS from the American Queen Steamboat Companywhere he was chief mate – pilot, responsible for the safety of passengers and the training crew members. He has decades of experience as a maritime expert, serving as part of the U.S. military, director of marine operations, and line safety inspector, as well as pilot and captain.
In addition, IMS has hired Captain Mark Murphy as General Manager. Captain Murphy will be based out of the Paducah, Ky., office and will be responsible for providing vessel operations oversight for the TVT contract. He will also manage all training needs for all IMS marine crews. Murphy’s long list of experience includes construction superintendent, port captain, instructor at Seamen’s Church Institute, and vessel captain. He was most recently vessel captain Marathon Petroleum where he oversaw the safe operation of Western Rivers push boats
