Officials from Hornblower and NYCEDC inspected first completed superstructure

NOVEMBER 20, 2016 —Construction of the first Incat Crowther designed vessels for New York City’s new Citywide ferry service has marked another milestone with completion of the superstructure for the first ferry.

Officials from Hornblower, which will operate the service, and the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) toured the Horizon Shipbuilding, Inc., Bayou La Batre, AL, shipyard November 16 morning and received an update on construction, which is on schedule, and inspected the first completed superstructure.

Hornblower’s CEO Terry MacRae, Senior Vice President and Citywide Ferry Project Manager Cameron Clark and NYCEDC Executive Vice President Seth Myers were among the officials on the tour, which was led by Horizon Shipyard CEO Travis Short. Also joining the tour was Chris Allard, the CEO of Metal Shark, Jeanerette, LA, the other shipyard building vessels for Citywide.

Currently, eight boats are under construction at Horizon Shipyard and four boats are under construction at Metal Shark. Approximately 200 full-time shipbuilders are working on the project at the two yards.
