Dredging was on the agenda at the March 15 meeting of the Board of Commissioners of Dare County, N.C. As well as being presented with a daunting presentation on the intricacies of dredge material permitting, the commissioners got an advance video look at the new shallow water trailing suction hopper dredge Miss Katy.

Designed by Jensen Naval Architects, it will help ensure the navigability of Dare County’s Oregon and Hatteras inlets in North Carolina. It is under construction at by Conrad Shipyard, and is being built under a public-private partnership between EJE Dredging Services, Greensboro, N.C., and the state of North Carolina.

The dredge is scheduled to be delivered in April 2022 and it will be managed by the Oregon Inlet Task Force.
