Siem Offshore back at Kleven

Norway's Siem Offshore, Inc. has declared an option at Kleven Verft ASf or the construction of two additional large Anchor Handling Towing Supply vessels (AHTS). The contract value is approximately NOK1.1 billion, and the vessels are scheduled for delivery in third quarter 2010.

Siem says the decision is in line its intention of becoming a major owner and operator in the segment for large AHTS.

Following this order, Siem has 10 similar AHTS under construction at Kleven Verft and its sister Myklebust Verft and has an option for a further two.

The 91.0 m LOA x 22.0 m beam vessels are of Vik-Sandvik VS 491 CD design and will have 28,000 BHP installed horsepower, a bollard pull of 300 tons, winch of 500 tons, accommodations for 60 persons and full PSV capacities.

They are designed with a special focus on safe anchor handling operations.

The engine configuration will enable both diesel mechanical and diesel electric propulsion which, in combination with the hull design, will provide efficient fuel consumption and reduced emissions.
