ABG takes FORAN license

India's ABG Shipyard Ltd. has entered into an agreement with the Spanish company Sener Ingenier’a y Sistemas S.A. for a permanent license to use the FORAN CAD/CAM System.

ABG Shipyard is the largest private sector shipbuilding yard in India. Its manufacturing facilities including a ship-lift with a lift capacity of 4,500 tons, side transfer facilities, CNC plasma cutting machine, bending rolls, hydraulic press, cold shearing machine, frame bending machine and steel processing machinery. The yard also has blasting shop and fabrication shop covered in 4 bays of 150 x 30 m each equipped with 20 t EOT Cranes.

A new shipyard is now being set up with state of art manufacturing facilities, including two newbuilding dry-docks, each 400 m long, allowing construction of all types of vessels up to 120,000 dwt to be built.

In the early part of 2006 ABG personnel received on-site training in the Hull and Piping disciplines of the FORAN System. This knowledge was then immediately put to use in an 18,800 dwt bulk carrier for ESL Shipping of Finland.

Structural and piping drawings have been successfully produced for this vessel as have the piping drawings for a number of other projects.

This month, ABG will complete FORAN training with instruction in the electrical subsystem. This will enable ABG to cover the total ship design process.
