Turkish shipbuilder held hostage in Iraq

A video released via Turkey's Ihlas News Agency and broadcast on Turkish television December 25 showed prominent Turkish businessman Kahraman Sadikoglu saying he was being held hostage in Iraq. Sadikoglu was accompanied by another man, identified as ship's captain Ahmet Yurtdas.

The two are believed to have been kidnapped December 16 after leaving Basra.

Sadikoglu is one of Turkey's wealthiest men. His interests include the Tuzla Shipyard and KS Marine, a contracting operation with heavy lift equipment whose services include wreck removal.

In the video, Sadikoglu said he was in Iraq working for the United Nations and the Iraqi Government on a project involving clearing harbors of sunken ships.
