MARCH 26, 2015—One of the U.K.’s largest privately owned shipping companies, Carisbrooke Shipping has selected maritime and offshore marketing consultancy Wake Media Ltd., London, U.K. as its new public relations agency.
Headquartered in Cowes, Isle of Wight, Carisbrooke Shipping currently owns and operates a fleet of 57 modern dry cargo vessels, ranging from 5,000 to 20,000 dwt, with a current average age of just five years.
Carisbrooke Shipping has a worldwide network of supporting technical and commercial offices in Bremen and Leer, Germany, Zwijndrecht, the Netherlands, and North America through its exclusive ship broker Salient Maritime based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
While it has a relatively young fleet, Carisbrooke Shipping has continued to invest in new ships. Back in 2010, Carisbrooke Shipping initiated its Green Ship Project with an order for four 8,500 dwt general cargo vessels, with further options, at China’s Jiangsu Yangzijiang Shipbuilding.
Designed in cooperation with Groot Ship Design, the new ships feature the distinctive Groot Cross Bow to reduce pitching and increase hydrodynamic efficiency, a large (4.3m) diameter propeller installed within a nozzle, giving additional thrust, full hull optimization, increasing the vessel’s efficiency, an Eefting efficiency monitoring system, as well as EEDI, IHM and EP certification.
The first vessel of this class, Vectis Eagle, was delivered in January 2012 following successful sea trials. Three sister vessels were delivered later in 2012, followed by four 10,500 dwt stretched versions.
These vessels have been closely monitored since delivery and have proven to be far more economical than vessels of a similar size. Carisbrooke Shipping will continue to develop and improve this design, ensuring it continues to lead the market in sustainable shipping.
