NOVEMBER 20, 2012 — Danish shipbuilder Hvide Sande Skibs- & Baadbyggeri recently delivered a 50 m double=ended ferry to Swedish domestic ferry company Ven-Trafiken. The vessel, the Uraniborg, will be operate between Landskrona and the Swedish island of Hven in the Øresund.
Naval architect Knud E. Hansen A/S was responsible for the basic design of the new vessels for the shipyard, including: class drawings, general design of hull, stability and outfitting, machinery systems arrangement and other documentation.
The ferry will carry trucks, cars and bicycles, with the main deck arranged for easy access for pedestrians and bicycles. Up to 394 passengers can be carried plus up to 14 cars or two trailers and seven cars.
The vessel has two engine rooms, one at each end. Two high efficiency azimuth thrusters, one at each end, have contra rotating double screw fixed pitch propellers and are each directly driven by a high speed diesel engine. The vessel thus has excellent maneuverability for easy port entrance and exit.
