AUGUST 23, 2016 — Maersk Supply Service has sold the anchor handlers Maersk Puncher and Maersk Provider as part of its recently announced plans (see earlier story) to cut its fleet by up to 20 vessels over the coming 18 months.
The divestment plan is a response to vessels in lay-up, limited trading opportunities and the global over-supply of offshore supply vessels in the industry.
Maersk Puncher and Maersk Provider were officially delivered to their new owners, Karadeniz Energy Group based in Istanbul, on August, 23,leaving the Maersk Supply Service fleet at 54 vessels
Maersk Supply says both vessels will be modified by their new owners and will no longer compete in the Offshore Supply Vessel (OSV) segment.
Karadeniz Group interests (as we reported recently) include the operation of floating power stations.
