St. Johns Ship Building, Palatka, FL, recently launched the Sea Strength, a 157 ft offshore service vessel (OSV) for A. R. Singh Contractors Ltd. When it is delivered in February, the Sea Strength will be the largest vessel in the A. R. Singh Contractors Ltd. fleet and will expand the company’s reach into the Caribbean offshore market.
“St. Johns Ship Building does excellent work,” says Allan (Mark) Ramjallacksingh, Operations Manager at A. R. Singh Contractors. “I was impressed with the design by Entech & Assoc., Inc. The quality of the designer and build speaks to that of the shipyard.”
The Sea Strength will have an overall length of 157 ft, beam of 38 ft, depth of 11 ft 6 in and design draft of 9 ft 6 in. It will have a minimum fuel capacity of 50,000 gal, fresh water capacity of 80,000 gal, lube oil storage capacity of 800 gal, contaminated oil capacity of 1,500 gal, dirty bilge water capacity of 1,500 gal, sewage water capacity of 2,000 gal and gray water capacity of 2,000.
The OSV will be twin screw with two Caterpillar C32 main engines rated at 850 hp each at 1,800 rev/min with Twin Disc reverse-reduction gears. It features a bow thruster unit driven by a Caterpillar diesel engine rated at 300 hp at 1,800 rev/min and two John Deere diesel engine-powered generator sets, each rated at 99 kW at 1,800 rev/min. The OSV is designed to be less than 500 gross tons ITC, have a Trinidadian load line and comply with the Code of Safety for Caribbean Cargo Ships (CCSS Code).
A. R. Singh Contractors Ltd. is located in the Southwestern town of Point Fortin on the island of Trinidad. The company has served the local Trinidad market since 1978 and provides marine transportation, pipe laying and offshore construction services. A. R. Singh Contractors Ltd. operates a fleet of approximately 20 vessels including tugs, barges, crew boats and supply boats.
