China Oilfield Services reports advanced AHTS newbuild grounded in shipyard incident

In a stock exchange announcement, the vessel's owner, China Oilfield Serviced Limited, said that on January 2012 at approximately 2:00 p.m., the vessel - HYSY 682 -was at the shipyard's Nantong when an incident resulted in a leak in the hold and led to the grounding of the vessel.

"The company and the shipyard are investigating the cause of the incident and the company is actively assisting the shipyard in taking remedial actions," said the statement, noting that "the incident has not created any environmental pollution."

HYSY 682 is a 3,000 hp, 93.4 m x 22 m deepwater AHTS vessel  being built at a cost of RMB 740 million (about $117 million). China Oilfield Services says it has taken out full insurance on HYSY 682 and has initiated claim procedures in accordance with the insurance policy.

"In addition," says the stock exchange announcement, "in accordance with the construction contract for the vessel, the shipyard will be responsible for the safe keeping of the vessel prior to its delivery. In case of losses or damages to the vessel, the shipyard will be held liable for the relevant losses."
